Preparing for the exam:

If have to take a special contrast medium known as "dye" (orally, rectally or via injection), then the patient must refrain from eating or drinking at least 6 hours prior to the exam. If do not have to take the contrast medium, then the patient can eat and drink fluid normally. |

Patient should inform the physician of any disease or conditions that they have such as allergies, asthma, heart disease, and history of allergies to specific medicine and seafood. | |
During the exam:

Patient must remain perfectly still for a few moments up to about 30 seconds while the physician acquires the CT data set. |
|
|
If the patient is unable to remain still (e.g. children), the physician may consider administering medicine to let the patient sleep through the procedure. | |
After the exam: Patients can resume normal eating and drinking habits unless the physician or caretaker requested otherwise. |
