People today are becoming
increasingly aware of Glaucoma, which is the disease that damages the
optic nerve. In many cases, its related to high pressure within the eye.
However, in some cases, it occurred since birth and is inherited. In the
early stages of the disease, there may be no symptoms. When a great deal
of the optic nerve has been damaged, the patients vision will deteriorate
until its beyond repair.
Treatment for glaucoma
generally begins with medication (either in the form of eye drops or oral
medicine). If medication treatment is unsuccessful in stopping the
progress of the disease, the other alternatives include surgery and laser
treatment.
